The major feature of this type of filter is its excellent output (better than conventional filters). Its powerful cleaning system is based on both mechanical and biological filtering.During each filtering cycle, the water first passes through the porous sponge where the main impurities are caught. It then goes through the activated charcoal that eliminates any bad smells and gives the water shine. In a 3rd stage, the water runs through the ceramic tubes that encourage the growth of nitrifying bacteria, which is known as biological filtration because these are responsible for eliminating ammonia. Lastly, any minor impurities are eliminated in the filter wool.

All of this involves a water flow of up to 3,000 L/h and a power of 40W in the case of the filter without a sterilisation light, which means that a large aquarium, such as one holding 300L, completes 10 cycles per hour.
